Hello friends and family,

Cancer has impacted:

* My mother, Sally (skin)
* My grandmother Dorothy (colon)
* My great-grandmother Louise (lung)
* My aunt Linda (breast)
* My cousin Denise (breast)
* My great-uncle, Bill (colon)
* My friend Travis, who died last year from testicular cancer
* And most recently, my grandfather and childhood hero Bernie (bladder) who passed away last week after his cancer came back.

With a list like that, it’s no surprise that I’d want to fight cancer. And I love riding my bike. Please help me honor my family and friends, as well as the millions of others whom this disease affects, as I ride my bike 45 miles in the LIVESTRONG Challenge Philadelphia on August 23, 2009.

I've already hit my first fundraising goal of $1,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Now I'd like to take it even further. The ride is in Philly and all my prizes are jazz related, so my new goal is $1926, in honor of John Coltrane's birthday. I know I can do this with the support of friends like you.
