Cheering from the sidelines: Fight like Susan! Win Becky! Win Joana!

Please help us beat this nasty, mean-spirited disease! It is killing our friends and loved ones! The Lance Armstrong Foundation unites people to fight cancer, believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything.

Through the dollars and awareness that we raise, we can inspire and empower individuals, and we can make life better for the millions of people across the globe fighting cancer today.

One of the people we're honoring in this effort is Susan Nelson. Treasured by her husband and children, and admired by so many, Susan inspired people all over the world. She is the name behind our team, and her husband is the captain of Team Fat Cyclist, fighting like Susan. If we can fight half as hard as Susan did, we will all be winners. http://www.fatcyclist.com

Becky is a fighter. She has been battling the cancer demon for 5 years, and she is not planning to quit until the demon is beaten back. She needs us to stand by her. See more about her on her mother's blog, http://sanibeltoots.blogspot.com/2008/11/visitors-on-island.html.

Joana recently turned 16, just a few months after her diagnosis. She had been having headaches for a long time, but her family doctor said it was all in her head. Turned out he was right. A Sears optometrist took one look into her eyes and sent her to the emergency room. She had surgery a couple of days later to remove a softball-sized brain tumor. All through her radiation, Joana kept up with her school schedule. She is no quitter, and we cannot quit on her. You can read about Joana on http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joana.

You have probably never met any of these women. As it happens, neither have I. But I know that life can turn on a dime and I could find myself in their place at any minute, without warning. Cancer doesn't care how old we are, how much we are loved, or how many things we have to do.

When we work to help Susan, Becky and Joana today, we are helping everyone who is waiting for a cure. We are also helping to protect ourselves, our children and grandchildren, because we are all at risk until that cure is found.

Please, let's all do what we can. Thank you for your donation.
