Dear Friends,

In the coming year I've decided to take on a challenge unlike any other I've undertaken to date; I've decided to participate in the 09 Livestrong Challenge ride in Philadelphia on August 23rd. As many of you may know, the Livestrong Challenge events are organized as a fund raising mechanism to provide resources for cancer research and directly to cancer patients via the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF). My commitment of support will be completing the 100-mile ride in Philadelphia; this will be the longest ride I have ever completed to date.

Unfortunately I'm certain many of us are familiar with the toll cancer take upon those who must fight this disease and their family and friends. Part of my motivation for taking on this challenge came from a call for support from a fellow cyclist whose wife has been battling cancer for over five years. Elden "Fat Cyclist" Nelson (www.fatcyclist.com) has organized teams for each Livestrong event with the goal of combining each individual's commitment to fulfill three larger goals. First, to be the largest Livestrong Challenge team there has ever been. Second, to raise more money to fight cancer than any other Livestrong Challenge team ever has, allowing LAF continue the work they do to promote and fund research and to provide assistance to those fighting cancer. Third, to create a legacy for Elden's wife Susan and her battle that sadly has taken a recent turn for the worse. By joining my efforts with other members of "Team Fat Cyclist: Fighting for Susan" I hope to contribute to the goals we look to achieve.

So I'm humbly asking for your support in this challenge. A gift of any size will help us obtain the goals that Team Fat Cyclist, the LAF, and I look to achieve.
