Hope makes a difference!

As unusual as it is for me to take on this challenge to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer, the inspiration for this effort is even more unexpected. I’ve been reading a blog for a few years, FATCYCLIST.COM, and have been following Elden Nelson’s efforts to help his wife fight cancer, raise a family, hold a job, and go cycling. This year, Elden, aka “Fatty”, has organized what should prove to be a record-breaking fundraising team.

If he can do all that at once, then I can do this to help him achieve his goals in this Challenge.

Also, I know a number of people affected by cancer and some who have lost the battle. It isn’t something I’ve thought about often, preferring to avoid the topic, but it has had a real impact in my life. It has an even bigger impact in so many other people’s lives, which makes me grateful for my health. And with my health, I can do something to help.

I have set my fundraising goal high. Really high. So high that I feel I have no logical reason to be optimistic that I’ll attain it. But as I’ve recently heard someone explain, optimism isn’t nearly as important as hope. I hope that I’ll make it. And I hope that you will help me.
